Prof Ian J. Bateman OBE, FRSA, FRSB, is Professor of Environmental Economics and Director of the Land, Environment, Economics and Policy Institute (LEEP) at the University of Exeter, UK. LEEP incorporates the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE) and the Centre for Rural Policy Research (CRPR). Ian holds a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit award and is a Member of the Board of the UK Joint Nature Conservation Committee, the Natural Capital Committee reporting to The UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Environment Agency Long-Term Investment Scenarios Development Group and the NERC Strategic Programme Advisory Group. He is lead economist for the UK ESRC Nexus Network and led the economics team for the UK National Ecosystem Assessment (UK-NEA) and the NERC Valuing Nature Network bringing together business and policy decision makers with research experts to examine natural environment and economic issues.  


Dr Richard Benwell is policy adviser to the Secretary of State at Defra. Previously, he has worked in policy and advocacy at WWT and RSPB. He has also been a director of Westmill Solar Cooperative and a senior clerk in the House of Commons commission, working with the Energy and Climate Change Committee and the Home Affairs Select Committee 


Dr. Jaime Ubilla holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, as well as a M.A. in law from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan; and a J.D. from Universidad de Chile. He is a professor at Católica University of the North of Chile, where he teaches Sociology of Law, Global law and Conservation Law He is the founder and Executive Director of the Conservation Law Center of Chile and of the Conservation Right Foundation. He originally proposed the creation of the new right in 2003, and drafted the main provisions of the new Chilean law that enacted the ‘conservation right’ in Chile in 2016.   Dr. Ubilla holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, is the founder and executive director of the Conservation Right Foundation and is the original proposer of the conservation right, a new property right enacted as law in Chile in 2016.
