Young UKELA is delighted
to announce the latest in our series of 'The Basics' Seminars, which aim to explain the fundamentals of environmental law to those in the early(ish) years of practice, in an inclusive format that encourages the presentations to give way to friendly Q&A, debate and networking.
The seminar will focus on an area of law that is both topical and important: the law of fisheries. Our expert contributors will discuss the existing law regulating sea fishing in UK waters, enforcement, the Common Fisheries Policy, issues arising from Brexit and the international perspective.
Our Speakers:
- Daniel Owen, barrister, Fenners Chambers: overview of law of fisheries in the UK
- Sarah Denman, UK Environment lawyer focusing on fisheries and Brexit, ClientEarth: Brexit and the Fisheries Bill
- Dr Richard Cadell, Lecturer in Law, Cardiff University: the international context
- Joe Miller & Kimberley Proud, lawyers, Marine Management Organisation: Enforcement of Fisheries Law
Like other Young UKELA seminars, the event is
informal in nature, intended to encourage participation and learning.
The seminar will be chaired by Ned Westaway, UKELA Vice Chair (and barrister at Francis Taylor Building).
